One Of 10 Female Singers Who I Enjoy Listening To

Mama Cass Elliot
(Mama)Cass Elliot....Her Voice Is (was) so soothing

In past postings. I have commented on a few female singers that I enjoy.
Stevie Nicks of course is the MAIN one. I have also mentioned Beth Hart and Samantha Fox.
What tends to surprise some is that I love the music and spirit if the late (Mama) Cass Elliot.

The first time I ever heard her singing I was around 13 years old. I was visiting my aunt and was going through her Lp Vinyl Collection. As I was browsing through, i stopped when I saw the cover of Mama's & The Papa's "I Can't Believe My Ears And Ears" sleeve cover. The band members were all sitting in a bath tub smiling. In the very middle sat a REAL size woman who had an infectious smile. I had to hear it. I played it and fell in love with the soothing music and sounds they offered.

My aunt, noticed how much I was enjoying the LP and she gave it to me. I still have it.
But that one encounter left me hungry for more. I eventually found two Cassettes of Cass Elliot's solo work. "Mama's Big Ones" and "Dream A Little Dream." Now, lately Cass Elliot's solo recordings have been very difficult to find on Compact Disc.....but thanks to *iMesh I have downloaded them all onto C.D.

What was even more refreshing than her singing...was the fact that here was a pretty REAL size woman who in music's set image standards defied all the rules. She was placed next to model/singer Michelle Phillips in the group and totally OVER SHADOWED her. Cass's voice is/was powerful. She had presence that eventually landed her not only a Las Vegas Show, but also a her own telelvision show. She guest hosted The Tonight Show frequently, starred in a major motion picture movie,PufNStuf, AND was turned into her own cartoon character in SCOOBY DOO....WHERE ARE YOU????? television series.

She was a pioneer in her day. In a male dominated music industry...she made her own kind of music. She did things her way. Her life was also shadowed by sadness. She never found true love. In her love songs you can hear that. Any singer who can transcend their life emotion/pain through their voice and into music without it sounding contrived or masterminded is a truly unique special vocalist.

When ever I want to relax,de-stress, need some soothing music, which is usually when I am taking a nice hot bubble bath, I lay back to the sounds of (Mama) Cass Elliot. Dream A Little Dream Of Me, Different, I'll Be Seeing, I Call Your Name, Better Everyday.....it makes me think of a great talent that was taken away form the world before her time.............Cass Elliot did NOT die by choking on a ham sandwich as rumours have persued...she died in fact of Heart Failure... Myocardial Degeneration Due To Obesity. She also tested negative for any drugs in her system.

Cass Elliot's only child Owen, runs and operates her late mothers official website www.casselliot.com which makes for a great read and is totally fact based.

(Mama) Cass Elliot was born Ellen Naomi Cohen September 19th, 1941 in Baltimore,Maryland. She passed away July 29th,1974 in London,England upon completing a very successful solo tour. She was 33 years old.
