VH1 used to air a program called VH1 Story Tellers, and the bands always played their songs live. I am not sure if they even still have this program now. Anyway, before every song, the artist would tell the audience a little bit about the song. How it was inspired to be written, who it was about and what it means to them
A few years ago, Stevie Nicks was their featured artist for one of these programs. Now, anyone who has ever been to a Stevie Nicks show knows that until a few years ago, Stevie rarely, if ever talked while performing. The Enchanted tour was the first tour where Stevie ever really did this. She had taken a group of her songs, lumped them together and told a story of how each song was written and what it meant for her.
Then along came Story tellers. If you missed this when it aired and are a fan, you really missed out on a great opportunity to see Stevie Nicks sings some of her songs and talk to the audience in between. BUT, if you DID miss this show, I have found an MP3 file where Stevie sings one of my all time favorite songs by her, live and stripped down to its basic element. That song is After The Glitter Fades.
To hear Stevie sing this song is heart wrentching at best. Written by her when she first began expierencing fame with Fleetwood Mac in the 1970's. She captured the uncertainty of her dream, the lonely feeling of fame and how becoming a celebrity is a double edge sword. Hearing her sing the song now, in her fifty's, you hear in her voice the sadness, the maturity and the aging process of a Rock N Roll woman who's heart has been broken and the woman's spirit who has survived and still stands today to tell her stories.
For those who are not Stevie Nicks fans, you just have NO IDEA what you are missing
Here is the download link that I have posted for "After The Glitter Fades". Enjoy.
