Stevie Nicks takes a moment and reflects on the era in which she was making her second solo album "The Wild Heart",the time of recording, completition and the The Wild heart Tour that soon ensued after it's June 1983 release.
When asked about "Wild Heart", Stevie says..."The album was about relationships, and this is EXACTLY what was happening back then. Any and everyone who was ensued with the making and touring of this album was either head over heels in love at that time, or going through painful relationship breakups. This entire album was written for everybody, and their wild heart. This was very much meant to be shared and given to people, to have them just love the idea that they have wild hearts, 'cause I love that...I totally love that. Yes, this album does greatly differ from "Belladonna". It's like Belladonna's heart is wild all of a sudden. She's just more sure of herself now,so she's taking a few more chances. It has that James Dean/Natalie Wood feel to it. I am very pleased with this album because it has no holds barred on it. It's real strong and emotional. When Tom Petty initially heard the song "Wild Heart" he looked and me and said....This is a classic. An Epic. It has all the emotions about love that everyone feels and is said in so few words. That made me VERY happy, to hear that from Tom."

With the opening of the title track, every Stevie fan knows that the mood is set for this album and it really is very different than that of her first effort, "BellaDonna". Gone is the country vibe feel of Belladonna and one now enters into a dimension enveloped with an atmosphere of synthesizer and percussion. A true 1980's era feel.
Fans and critics alike bicker about which album is better. Belladonna or Wild Heart? In truth, Stevie says it best when she states...."How can you choose? For me personally that would be like trying to pick a favorite child. You love each of them unconditionally and regardless."
Stevie comment's that the first opening lyrics of the song Wild Heart were written after she had moved into her California Pasedna home and it was a time when she really felt abandoned and alone. "Something in my heart died last night....just one more chip off an already broken heart....I think of heart broke long ago....that's when I needed you, It's when I needed you most."
Next we have "If Anyone Falls"..... I love this song..."I hear a voice....in a room next to mine...feels good, sounds good...closes the door from behind...then another voice comes through the door. I am dreaming of a man...who went away from me but still deep inside my heart...and he says if anyone falls...it will be one of us"...Think she's talking about Lindsey here? Guess we will never know. Regardless of who she is referring to, it was a radio staple and is still played today.
Gate And Garden....Stevie took some slack from fans because of her vagueness. To dispell rumors, in truth the song is about love (the rose) and how people can take and abuse it. I personally love this song. Most Stevie songs are best when full interpretation isn't readily availiable and the listener can invent his or her own.

Nightbird...a song written by Stevie for her recently deceased best friend Robyn Anderson. Wild heart was the first release after her death and the mood of darkness exemplifys that. Great tune and I love the verse.... "I Wear Boots All Summer Long".
Stand Back...ok everyone know's this song was the big hit on the album and that it was inspired by Prince's song "Little Red Corvette". Everyone also knows that Prince wrote/plays the opening keyboard to this mega hit that Stevie Nicks still perfroms in every live show today. When the song opens and the keyboard begins, I instantly find myself in another dimension. When performed live, this is a great show stopper of a tune and the crowd INSTANTLY Goes wild.
I Will Run To You....another safe duet with Tom Petty. Not one of my personal faves but no two people can sing a Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty duet and capture their chemistry.
Nothing Ever Changes.....not one of my favorite Stevie tunes either...but the sax solo is awesome.
Sable On Blonde.....Featuring Mick Fleetwood on drums. "To Be Brave....Save The Stranger"...lyrics only Stevie can penn. The production is great and the lyrics are sublime.
Beauty & The Beast....One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE Stevie Nicks tunes. Stevie Nicks recorded this song live with an orchestra, the result is a haunting, dark ballad. Written for and about Mick Fleetwood. Mick and Stevie had a brief affair during this time, until they both felt it wrong to continue, Stevie was also contemplating leaving Fleetwood Mac for good to concentrate solely on her solo career.....hence the "Would you die of grieving....when I leave". Thinking of the origional Jean Cocteau movie version, the black and white schemes match the melancholy of this song. A perfect ending to a near perfect album.
