A New Serial Killer Perfecting His Technique??

To My horror, this week I read an article that showcased a local zoo. It is in Salisbury, Maryland, which is is roughly two hours from where i live. It seems that one of the zoos' animals, a Llama, was found on opening morning to be in great pain and bleeding. Observation showed this animal had been knifed from his rectum down to his inner thigh. Later dying. How awful is this!!!! One theory in particular i found interesting was that some police officials believe this is the begining of a serial killer in the works. Most killers premeditate and then practice on animals to perfect their "techniques". Certainly a scary thought. Any killing is bad, but a defenseless animal???? Cruelty to animals always upsets me.
